Growing up in the church, I always believed in God. I always knew He was there, and knew He was good. However, I never really understood what that meant until my junior year of high school. Everything I knew about Christ changed for me in one night when I was asked the question: “What is one question you don’t want to be asked?”
I realized I didn’t want to be asked what I believed about God, because I wasn’t sure, and I felt embarrassed.
After that, it seemed like everything began to change, and in the best ways possible. I realized that God was someone I could lean on and talk to all the time. I began reading His word and keeping a running dialog with Him daily. I was baptized later that year and started to understand just how important it is to live like Jesus. I began to see Him in the little things, like my best friend and the kids I babysit, drawing me closer and closer to Him.
Since I decided my life would be better lived with Jesus, everything has changed. I know it’s a cliché, but it’s the only way I can describe it. I began loving people wholly and putting my faith in God during tough situations. When I came to college I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. While I was excited and ready to start this new chapter in my life, I wondered if I would be able to find good, Godly people. But I did. The way I came to find the community I now call family is just another testimony to God’s perfect timing. He placed the people I my life that He knew I needed, and they’ve helped me to grow even more just in the few months I’ve been at school.
My journey with God has been and is progressing, more and more each day it seems like. Every day I find opportunities to share His goodness with people, whether it be giving them a smile, or actually talking to them about Jesus. I am excited to see the little things He continues to provide, and to meet more people to live like Jesus with.
Just like you heard a story of a life changed by Jesus, This could be your story too and it begins by inviting Jesus Christ into your life by faith. The greatest story happened two thousand years ago when God sent his son Jesus Christ to live a perfect life, and to die as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). This righteousness of God is given “through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe” (Romans 3:22) so that we can have a personal relationship with God both now and after we die in heaven.
Your story could change in a moment. The Bible says “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). This could be your story. You can receive Jesus Christ right now by faith. Romans 10:9 says “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” You can invite Jesus into your life right now by praying this prayer.
